Root Concrete
is
design brought to concrete. . .
Countertops
CONCRETE is chosen as a countertop material for its
inherent plastic nature: it can conform to any shape
and it can take on any color.
Concrete’s quality of warmth and versatility of
aesthetic make it suitable for any type of
decorating style and any type of home or business.
Root Concrete employs multiple types of finishes
and sealers to adapt the material to the
circumstance. Our concrete mix design has been
formulated and tested to withstand the rigors of
use, inside or out, and we are always learning new
ways to make it better.
SUSTAINIBILITY &
GREEN BUILDING
Concrete is ultimately as or more sustainable than
stone or other solid surfaces due to its durability,
longevity, and relatively low embodied energy as
compared to those first two materials. Using
recycled glass materials for aggregates can further
in it’s sustainability. Visit the Portland Cement
Association at
www.cement.org for more information on building
green with the gray stuff.
FOR ALL THOSE WITH QUESTIONS: Concrete is no
stranger to nay Sayers, and never has been.
Concrete is not the perfect countertop material,
just like all the rest of them. It requires
maintenance, in a similar fashion to stone, it is a
handmade product, not machined, and it is porous to
an extent. Certain things may stain it, a sharp
blow with a sledgehammer could crack it, and your
knives will dull if you cut on it. We have an
information packet we send out that is specific to
concrete countertops if you are interested. We have
tried to include every possible detail about the
material on those pages.
